What I got up to on Momday evening ☺

So I figured: I'm always blogging about other people do and what other people wear and where they go. Why the hell not give you a glimpse into my life? I've already been described as the epitome of vanity so one post about me and my lootings won't do any further damage, right? RIGHT! So off I went to Co.Fi Rosebank on Monday to indulge in a bit of kasi soul aka The Soil.

We were invited to join them for their performance at 7pm, I arrived at 8pm and they still hadn't started with their set. To cut a long story short the whole house was kept waiting for 3 bleddie hours before we were blessed by an hour-strong performance by the stars of the night! If you still don't understand what I'm on about, here's a taste from this internet sensation performing the song I came to know them by "Sunday"

Their live performance is waaaaaaay better though, it's just unfortunate I was daft enough to forget to take video footage.

The Soil is a 4 member acapella group whic "aims to bring healing to the world with their music" The members are Buhle (lady with the head-scarf, Phindo (guy on the far right) and Ntsika (guy on the far left). Their fourth member lives in the spritual form (Casper) and I think that's just creepy!

Buhle and I, too precious ♥

Their first self-titled album has been out since June and it's just one of those you shouldn't miss. I said this to the trio after their shindig " you guys aren't just artists, you're amazing performers" And I meant it, I bow down...

They looked good

Have a quick look at this vid and make sure you take note of Nhlanhla Nciza's outfit. She's the frontlady of then- Afro pop trio Mafikizolo. I think she nailed the white-on-white on the head! Perfect

Knitting can be soo darn cool

Remember how your gran would sit in her rocking chair with a ball of yarn knitting you stuff you'd never wear? No? Good, me neither. Sorry Gogo, but yarn bombing (guerrilla crochet, knit graffiti, yarnstorming, or any combo of the former...)  is so freakin' awesome!

The mother of the yarn bombing movement, Magda Sayeg, ambushed 99 trees with some shock and awe here in Texas (below), the birthplace of warm and cozy graffiti. How cute...

This world-brightening practice has gone global, and it manifests itself in a variety of styles, from subtle pops of color against the drab landscapes of the world...

...to full-fledged assaults on cars, buses, phone booths, you name it!

Who knew knitting could be such a fucking thrill?! Ahoy knitters, I salute you

Can't wait to have a daughter so I can recite this prayer

First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.
May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the Beauty.
When the Crystal Meth is offered, May she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half and stick with Beer.

Guide her, protect her when crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock ‘N Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.

Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes and not have to wear high heels.
What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You, because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.

May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.

Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen. Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long, For childhood is short – a Tiger Flower blooming Magenta for one day – And adulthood is long and dry-humping in cars will wait.

O Lord, break the Internet forever, That she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers and the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.

And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister, Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends, For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it.

And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord, that I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 A.M., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back.
“My mother did this for me once,” she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck. “My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental Note to call me. And she will forget. But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.
Amen.

A poem written by actress comedian Tina Fey. This is real love

Aren't these the cutest...

Excuse me, if I mean anything to anyone out there I'll wake up to a turqouise and tan Proenza camera bag TOMORROW! These are the sickest, especially for us bloggers who always slug around with our cameras.

The art of looking cool

ELLE TUMBLR Courtney D'Alesio OXFORDS CAMEL TAN BROGUES

Love this look. Got me thinking: how come some women find it nearly impossible to look good without looking like they spent a whole day getting ready while some elegantly glide towards their closets and immediately know what to pair with what??? The injustices of this world know no end I tell you!

I'm an addict

I seem to have developed an insatiable appetite for good art. So much so that I have reserved "art exhibition" dates with myself! Ignatio Torres is one of my faves but here's another artist who I just recently discovered, Andrew Matusik, who's mad-awesome (forgive my very juvenile vocab).

I hope you too can see the beauty in this man's art. Magnifique

Needless to say these ladies heated up the red carpet last night at the 63rd annual Emmy Awards. A select few weren't so fortunate though. I'll deliver to you the worst dressed by the end of the day ☺ You WANT to see them!

Knot the Turban

I've been thinking about it for a while now and I've finally reached a decision: I'm prepared to go through (deliberate) monstrous hair days just so I can be justified in wearing a turban in 28C temperatures. I was a tad apprehensive at giving this trend a bash (scared my oval face will resemble that of a race horse) but I'm young and have my youth as an excuse for my somewhat experimental nature. These are simply beautiful

Teeny, weeny hurdle though: I have no idea how to tie it like our Asian brothers (I don't want to say Indian ---> but I think I just did). So I did the laziest thing since the rise of technology and Googled it baby!

Looks kinda right, RIGHT?

Expect snapshots of my first attempt soon ☺

Rimmel London Launch #Solange Knowles

If this chikka doesn't slow down for a second I'm going to have to change the name of this blog to "Solange Diaries" or something dreary like that! Looks like the new Rimmel London promo girl has her work cut out for her and, thankfully, it looks like everything's being taken in stride.

Just one thing though: did I miss the memo stating we all follow in Alexa Chung's footsteps? I hear Solange's a DJ now (recently played a set for Sephora's New York). Besides that little qualm I love the work this lil muffin has put into stabilising her previously rocky "image"

She'd just best slow her roll, she's starting to crowd my personal space!

Stolen blog post (it's worth it)

I'm fishing for pocket tissues in my bag but they seem to have grown legs, so while the tear rolls down my cheek and while my heart continues to trip over itself, I'll be trying to make sense! I found this post on one of my fave blogs teeteeiswithme. The publisher of the post was in love with these and it's not hard to understand why. I don't even know what to classify them as; are these the product of awesome photography or just the simplicity of beautiful clothes or the marriage of both?

I want to try the same with some ankara fabric I have stashed at my Mom's from my first visit to Mozambique! ☺

25 Most Stylish New Yorkers #SMH

I'm not going to spend much time on this post. Basically I'm disappointed simply because the New York fashion scene has evolved to become so much more than big labels thrown together to produce a tacky outfit. I believe this, among others, is the criterion used to select at least half of the "25 Most Stylish New Yorkers".
Ashanti

Carmelo And LaLa Anthony

Oscar-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson wore a sexy black and lace mini-dress to the event
DJ Kiss walked the carpet with her husband DJ Mos.

Estelle posed with Questlove at the party

Like I said, I'm thoroughly disappointed. They should've just called the event "Shindig for Rich Celebs" instead of raising our hopes up for something more style-inclined. Painfully bland

Au Naturelle

So you've taken the giant leap to grow your hair naturally (whoop di doo, whoop di dae ☺) A HUGE misconception about growing out your natural hair is that you have to wear it in "safe" dos! You couldn't be more wrong! Use these beauts as the inspiration you'll need (on the regular) to stay away from those darn relaxers.

Aluta continua. The struggle towards low maintenance natural K-haarwages on. (now I can't say the shit I want to on my own effin blog! Thank you apartheid, you forced me to be politically correct)

1st Runner up - Solange Knowles

Solange rocked a GIGANTINORMOUS (yes, I still use such juvenile vocab) hair piece at Claridges Hotel in London. The brand ambassador for Rimmel London seemed to be competing with Ms Dugas's title for worlds biggest Afro. Clearly Solange was channelling her inner Ms Ross in 1970's luxe!

I'm not hating though. In fact, I want one of those but I doubt Kinky has caught up with what I predict to be the next biggest trend (excuse the pun). Kinky man... Nx
