2011 Spring/Summer Must-Haves

SPRING HAS SPRUNG ☺ Happy Spring day y'all! Here's to a lighter, brighter, chirper you (forget all the allergy-inducing pollen)! A new season in my world signifies a new you, which somehow signifies the coming of a shopping spree. So who better to ask for this year's spring/summer got-to-haves than moi. The items below may be easy on the eye but they're definately not easy on the pocket so I've attached links where you can find similar items at a giveaway price!

• Ankara-inspired garments

Anything made from Nigerian inspired ankara fabric gets a nod of approval from me. Mr.Price's Kumaro range has an array of African-inspired printed garments at prices to go! And nowhere does it stipulate you can't rock ankara shorts, you therefore have no excuse to deny your heritage the exposure it deserves. A stylish way to keep the African in you grounded.

• Colour blocking!

Well, this is more of a must-do than a must-have, but I'll assume my point is noted. You will cease to exist on the fashion front should you not adhere to Summer 2011's cardinal rule: "Colour block or die!" If you're shit-scared of colour, you can still give this trend a bash and start with pastel colours (cotton-candy pink, pale blue) or accessories (shoes, bags)and gradually build your confidence with using colour from then on. "You no colour block, you no exist. Cappish?"

• The loose trouser

Africa's hot, so why torture yourself with trousers that make your legs look like overstuffed sausages? Let loose, LITERALLY! But don't think that this must-have limits you to boyfriend jeans only; 70's wide-legged work-wear trousers have made a huge come-back, cargos are still a wardrobe staple and harem pants still work when teamed with a fitted top and hooker-heels (ditch the perspex)! So go ahead, GET LOOSE!

• "Barely there" makeup

A common mistake women make when applying makeup is assuming that more increases your aesthetic appeal! And you honestly couldn't be more misinformed. All one needs (considering the heatwaves we will have to endure) is either a foundation or powder matched exactly with your skintone because the closer your makeup shade is to your natural tone, the less makeup you'll need (only makes sense, right?). Team that with a beautifully defined brow, lengthening mascara and a swab of gloss and you're good to go! Less is less but the impact is flawless!

• Confidence

There's nothing quite like the silhouette of a woman who knows her worth; posture straight as a pin and a strut powered by new resolve. Take your power and OWN IT!
