Miss Angola is now Miss Universe

When I got wind of the news in the early hours of this morning I thought :"What the hell are we going to do about these gorgeous Angolans?" Then I answered myself: "Nothing, the problem is with us South Africans" Then I went back to bed.

Miss Angola, Leila Lopes, a business student from the town of Benguela in her home country, was crowned Miss Universe on Monday after dazzling a panel of judges with her beauty and impressing them with her brain. Lopes, 25, laughed and smiled as she hugged runner-up Miss Ukraine Olesia Stefanko, then felt a crown placed carefully on her head at the pageant held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Earlier in the contest, Lopes had been asked what she might change about her physical characteristics if she could, but Lopes said she was satisfied with who she was. "I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty," she told the judges and the audience. "I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family, and I plan to follow those through the rest of my life." Lopes takes her place as the winner of the 60th annual Miss Universe pageant.

Now I know you might be wondering how our own faired among the bevvy of beauts but, alas, Miss South Africa Bokang Montjane failed to impress the judges and so her trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil was yet another chance for her to expand her frame of reference. But I honestly cannot say I expected much more from our representative who seems to not hold much  else in high regard except for "preventing teenage pregnancy" REALLY???

And I STILL don't understand how she won. But veels geluk to Miss Angola. Beauty and a bit of brain is never a let  down.
