Anything that involves the Hef always mildly amuses me and although this latest report has no direct link to him, I can't help but chuckle. PLAYBOY, Editor-in-chief, Charl du Plessis, has announced that they have deleted the word 'girl' from their magazine and they have replaced it with the words 'woman'or model.
“Putting our August edition to bed this week, it was weird to see how it creeps in everywhere and our team had a good laugh doing a global check on the whole edition when exorcising the word. A word like ‘girlfriend’ will obviously stay. Does no-one date real women?”
PLAYBOY has been an important force for social change in each of the countries where it has been read during its 57-year history. Locally, we need to reflect our times, as well as push the boundaries on shaping the values by which we live in South Africa. At a time when there are challenges to some of the core principles of our Constitution, especially in the area of free speech, we believe we can play a role in focusing our audience on the substantive freedoms we are allowed to enjoy in this country. It is as much the right of women to be treated respectfully as it is the right of our readers to buy what they want to read. This editorial switch lays some foundation towards that goal,” said Du Plessis.
Described as a first in the international PLAYBOY family, South Africa hopes to set the tone in terms of respect for women in accordance with a Constitution that is revered across the globe. Do not mistake this switch as PLAYBOY South Africa losing it irreverence and sense of fun though. In this same upcoming August edition, in a feature on polygamy, President Zuma will be pitted against Hugh Hefner in a four-round slugfest to see who is king of the hill in the land of polygamy.
Putting our state president up against Hugh Hefner??
I'm jumping outta my skin with anticipation. "Battle of the Polygamists" has a nice ring to it neh?
